Our third treasure is a stone monument established by

King Jinheung, the great conqueror of the Silla Dynasty.

우리의 세 번째 보물은 신라의 전성기를 이끈 정복 군주, 진흥왕이 세운 비석입니다.

Originally, it stood on the very top of Bibong Peak in Bukhansan,

to commemorate the expansion of Silla's territory into the Han River area.

원래 이 비석은 북한산 비봉 정상에 서 있었습니다.

신라가 한강 유역까지 영토를 넓힌 것을 기념하기 위해

세워진 '영토 확장 인증샷' 같은 존재죠.

2. The Discovery: A 1,200-Year Mystery Solved

반전의 역사: 1,200년 동안 아무도 몰랐던 정체

For over a millennium, people thought this was

the monument of a Buddhist monk named Muhak.

천 년이 넘는 세월 동안 사람들은 이 비석이 '무학대사'의 비석인 줄만 알았습니다.

But in 1816, the great scholar Kim Jeong-hui (Chusa)
climbed the peak and deciphered the faded letters.

하지만 1816년, 조선의 대천재 추사 김정희가 직접 산을 올라

흐릿한 글자를 해독해내며 이것이 진흥왕의 비석임을 밝혀냈습니다.
